Exploring Mould Making

A lathe-turned rook chess piece replicated with a simple dump mould.

This project focused on lathe turning to craft a rook chess piece and then developing a basic dump mould to replicate it. The process started with shaping the piece on the lathe, followed by creating a mould box to contain the silicone. The mould was designed as a single-piece dump mould, meaning the cast could be poured in and removed without complex parting lines. This approach kept the process simple while allowing for quick and consistent reproductions. The project was a practical exercise in blending traditional turning techniques with basic mould-making for efficient replication.
